Checking out classrooms at Sippican School open house

Aug 29, 2023

MARION — Ten-year-old Charlotte Darosa awaited Open House night outside Sippican School with an armful of cleaning supplies for her teacher on Tuesday, Aug 29.

“We just want to help the teachers,” she said.

“We want to keep the rooms clean and the germs off of them, [the teachers] don’t need to pay for everything” said Charlotte's mom Elizabeth.

Students guided their parents through the halls of Sippican School to meet their teachers and find their desks in the classroom.

Six-year-old Sagan Tomasik-Jerks sat at her desk in her first grade classroom already prepared for her first day of class on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

“My friends are going to sit next to me,” she said.

This year, Sippican School students can expect to continue reading their favorite books in the library, perform with the concert band at AHA night in New Bedford and create “Back to the Future” themed art projects.

Eleven-year-old Judah Monty was excited to start sixth grade and be one of the “biggest kids at school.”

“I’m not a teenager yet, but almost,” said Judah. Although Judah said he was looking forward to his first day, his mom Gloria was “nervous.”

“I didn’t imagine this day would come but it’s here,” said Gloria. “I’m excited but scared for [Judah entering middle school] next year.”
