Center School will get a new tree soon, helping to replace two that died on Church Street.

Sandy Hering, chair of the Mattapoisett Tree Committee, spoke with the Mattapoisett School Committee on Monday night about the new tree.

Hering said a sweet gum tree was chosen and donated by Ralph and Mary Eustis.

“It’s a good urban tree and a fast growing tree,” said Hering. “When you have children around tress, I think that’s important.”

The new tree will be put where an oak tree once stood, if possible.

The school committee approved the new tree.
