Church summer fair is back bigger than ever

Jul 27, 2014

More than 1,500 people attended The First Congregational Church of Marion’s annual Super Duper Summer Fair, the church’s largest fundraising event of the year.

Church members have organized the event since the early 1960s. On Saturday, the fair was bigger than ever with more craft tables, a dunk tank, a bouncy house, a mini golf hole, auctions and plenty of food. Everything at the fair is donated and the staff members who set up, operate and clean up the event volunteer as well.

Money was raised through games, bidding on auction items and money earned at one of the many food booths at the fair. Funds go towards local and international charities.

This was Lee Dougall’s and Judith Coykendall’s second year as event co-chairs.  Dougall said of the tradition, “It’s a wonderful thing for Marion…It really brings the Church together.”
