Clean Energy Collective proposes solar project in Rochester
Clean Energy Collective met with the Rochester Planning Board on Tuesday night to present its proposal for a community solar project.
The project would be built on Mike Forand’s property at 268 Mattapoisett Road. Forand has 39 acres of land, but the solar array would be built on five acres at the back of the property.
There is a significant amount of wetlands on the site, but Greg Carey from Clean Energy said the project already received approval from the Conservation Commission.
The project would only be visible from Mattapoisett Road, and Evan Watson, a representative from Prime Engineering workin with Clean Energy Collective, assured the Planning Board there would be sufficient screening.
“We’ll put a wooden stockade fence up to screen it from Mattapoisett Road,” he said. “We also developed a landscape plan with plants and shrubs of various heights. We picked species that are good for screening and wildlife functions.”
Sue Lacey, an abutter to the propose project, said she doesn’t have any concerns about the screening.
“I’m very pleased,” she said. “I like the screening. From where I live I’ll walk through that area and I won’t have any issue. I think it’ll look very, very natural. The project itself is well developed, well thought out, and I have no problems with it at all.”
The plan for the solar project is to market the power to Rochester residents.
Planning Board Chair Arnie Johnson said the board would try to set up a site visit before the next meeting on Nov. 9.
