Clock chimes again in Mattapoisett
Apr 11, 2013
February's blizzard wreaked havoc on Mattapoisett's historic Seth Thomas Clock, but Clock Keeper Ray Andrews reported that it's back at Center School and ringing once more.
Following the storm, melted snow leaked through the hatch in the bell tower and onto the mechanisms below – only two months after the restored clock was reinstalled.
The hatch was refitted to make it watertight, and the clock was sent to Balzer Family Clock Works in Maine for repair.
On Wednesday, Andrews said that the clock had finally returned to the school.
"I just listened to the final bell tolling of the day at 8 p.m. All is well in Mattapoisett," he said.
