MATTAPOISETT — The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 013-06-05 will offer free vessel safety inspections and safe boating information on July 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at Town Wharf.

Some of the items to be checked include proper display of numbers, registration and documentation, personal flotation devices, visual distress signals, fire extinguishers, overall vessel condition, backfire flame control, sound producing devices, navigation lights and ventilation.

The checks aim to support the Coast Guard Recreational Boating Safety Program’s goal of minimizing loss of life, personal injury, property damage and negative environmental impact of the use of recreational boats.

The checks will help to achieve voluntary compliance with federal, state and local boating safety laws, particularly regarding the carriage of safety equipment.
