Coast Guard to offer one-day boating classes through May

Get your sea legs with a series of one-day boating classes hosted by the Marion-Onset United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 06-03 at the West Wareham Fire Station, 2368 Cranberry Highway. 

The “Boat America Safe Boating Course” will be an “in-depth and interesting boating safety course helpful to boaters of all experience levels,” according to the Marion-Onset Flotilla. Topics will include an introduction to boating, boating laws, lessons on required safety equipment, safe operation and navigation, boating emergencies, trailering, and sports and boating. 

Classes will be hosted on the first Saturday of each month through May. Upcoming classes will be held on March 2, April 6 and May’s class date is to-be-decided. Each class runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes two 10-minute breaks, a 30-minute lunch break and a final exam. 

Participants who complete the class will receive a “Boat America Safe Boating Course” certificate from the United States Coast Guard. Participants may also get a credit from their insurance company for completing the course, according to the Marion-Onset Flotilla.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Classes cost $35 including a book and materials. Family members 12 and older can share the course and get $10 off registration.
