Construction, flowers, friendly phone calls at the Marion COA

May 4, 2020

MARION — Work on the Community Center renovation project to put walls between different offices, has finished under budget and ahead of schedule. However all programs in the space are cancelled until further notice, though some services are still provided virtually or in-person.

Council on Aging officials will celebrate the new space when the community center reopens.

The Council on Aging is starting a friendly conversation program for those that feel isolated. Call the office at 508-748-3570 to join this service.

For the time being, the Marion COA is only providing medical transportation. One mask-wearing passenger will be transported at a time from the backseat, to provide as much space as possible from the driver.

The Council on Aging staff will make an effort to reschedule all of its podiatry appointments when the community center reopens to the public. Seniors can also make appointments with a dental hygienist for July 24.

The COA has moved its yard sale to the fall, but is still accepting donations during normal business hours.

Seniors are also invited to Adopt a Window Box, which they will plan and plant. The contest is open to all members of the community. Individuals or groups may adopt a box. Soil, tools and a water source will be provided. The deadline to sign up by calling the office  is May 31.  Judging for the boxes will take place mid-summer.
