Construction underway at Rochester Senior Center

Sep 24, 2019

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Senior Center has started construction on a new section of its parking lot, which would double the number of spaces available. The current lot is not big enough to accommodate parking for special events, and participants have to park in an unpaved area near Dexter Field. The goal is to have the log completed before the first heavy snowfall.

Made-to-order breakfast is served at the Rochester Senior Center from 7 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. Seniors can order breakfast sandwiches, eggs any style, pancakes an omelette or one of the weekly specials. Breakfast is sponsored by the Friends of the Rochester Senior Center and the Lions Club. If it is your birthday, breakfast is free. The Senior Center is always looking for volunteers to help with breakfast. Contact Lorraine Thompson at 508-763-8723 for details.

The Friends of the Rochester Senior Center have raised approximately $176,000 towards an addition to house the Senior Supportive Day Care Program. This service keeps seniors occupied and engaged in a supervised setting, and allows caretakers to work or take a break. The buy a brick program, which allows participants to inscribe a brick with a custom message for the walkway outside the addition, is still ongoing. The Friends of the Rochester Senior Center will also hold other fundraisers in the future.

The Friends will host a Fiber-Craft Event on Saturday, Sept. 28th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many craft materials will be available for purchase at vendor tables, and the event will also include crafts and a raffle.
