MATTAPOISETT — Trick-or-treat!

The streets of Mattapoisett were filled with ghosts and ghouls of all shapes and sizes on Sunday night, Oct. 31 as the town held its annual trick-or-treat to the delight of local children.

“It’s all about the kids and the community,” said Mattapoisett Police Chief Jason King, who was out in front of Center School handing out bags of candy and glow sticks with other officers. “There’s normally a parade and a costume contest but we haven’t been able to do that the last couple years because of covid, so we wanted to at least do something.”

King added that he hopes the festivities can go back to normal next year.

With events abbreviated this year, residents were getting the most out of Trick-or-treat, dressing up in spooky costumes and decorating their houses to welcome the sugar-hungry children.

One house on Water Street was made into Cinderella’s Castle complete with twin Cinderellas to hand out candy.

“Halloween is my favorite so we do this every year,” said Donna Downey, who was dressed as the princess version of Cinderella. “We choose a different theme every year, though.”
