Covid case counts reach 30s in each town

Cases have been on the rise again in all three towns in the last week according to the state’s new weekly covid-19 data, and record highs were reported in both Mattapoisett and Rochester.

There were 39 new positive cases in the last week in Marion, 37 in Rochester and 33 in Mattapoisett. The Tri-Town is now completely in the red as part of the state’s color-coded risk designation system.

Sippican Healthcare Center, a long-term care facility in Marion, has seen 15 covid-related deaths since the start of an outbreak in early November. Since the outbreak, Sippican Healthcare Center’s total case count has reached 136. 10 residents and staff have recently been hospitalized due to covid. 

Since Dec. 3, there have been 17 new cases of coronavirus in the Old Rochester Regional School District in the high school, junior high, Old Hammondtown School, Sippican School, and most notably, the first cases at Rochester Memorial School since classes began.

On Dec. 10, the district reported in its covid data dashboard that 48 students and 6 staff members were in quarantine. There have been 48 covid cases in the district since school began on Sept. 16.
