Covid cases on the rise in Mattapoisett, Rochester

While Marion’s coronavirus case count seems to be on the mend according to the state’s Dec. 3 covid data, cases are on the rise in Mattapoisett and Rochester.

Rochester remained in the yellow, with cases jumping from 16 to 21 between now and Nov. 27. While cases steadily declined in the last three weeks, Mattapoisett now has 24 cases, up from last week’s 19. This also puts them in the yellow. See how the state’s color coding system works here.

Marion’s case count is improving, going from 32 last week to 30 this week. The town is just five cases away from getting out of the state’s designation as a high-risk community. 

The sharp rise in cases over the past month was due to an outbreak at Sippican Healthcare Center, a long-term care facility in the town. But case numbers are decreasing at the center.

As of Dec. 3, There are 37 residents and staff who tested positive for coronavirus. 

In the past week, the Old Rochester Regional School District reported six new cases in various schools.

Nine new covid cases were reported in Mattapoisett. One case was found in Center School. Four cases were reported at Old Rochester Regional High School and three at the junior high school. Sippican School and Rochester Memorial reported one new case each.

As of Dec. 3, there were 29 confirmed cases of covid, and 6 cases in isolation. 45 staff members and 6 are in quarantine. Of the 51 individuals in quarantine, 25 of them are from ORRHS.
