Covid summer spike reaches new high

New covid cases in the Tri-Town reached another new summer high, with 30 new cases recorded in the week leading up to Sept. 2.

The week prior, the towns recorded a total of 28 new cases, the highest since April.

Marion recorded 11 new cases, up one from the previous week.

Mattapoisett recorded seven new cases, and was the only town to see a drop in new cases. In the week leading up to Aug. 26, the town recorded 10 cases.

Rochester recorded the highest number of new cases with 12, up from 8 the week prior.

This is the fifth straight week the Tri-Town has recorded over 20 new cases.

As cases continue to rise, vaccination rates in the Tri-Town have inched upward.

In Marion, covid vaccination rates have remained at 85% for residents with at least one dose of a vaccine and 77% fully vaccinated.

In Mattapoisett, the latter figure remained stagnant for the third straight week, but the rate of residents with at least one dose rose from 84 to 85%.

In Rochester, both figures rose by 1%, with 65% of residents with at least one dose and 59% fully vaccinated.
