Jan 28, 2014

A car crash on Monday afternoon sent two people to the hospital and left many without power for approximately seven hours.

Police Chief Mary Lyons said the department received a call just before 12:30 p.m. about the single car accident.

Driver Simon Schroder hit a pole near 56 Crystal Spring Road.

He and passenger Benjamin Price, both of Mattapoisett, were taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital due to the trauma incurred in the accident.

“He was driving a little bit too fast and lost control of the vehicle,” said Lyons. “They did not have their seat belts on.”

NSTAR reported that 300 customers were left in the dark. Two-third had power restored within 35 minutes. The remaining 100 got power back around 7:30 p.m.

No further information is known about the condition of Price or Schroder.
