David P. Johnson, 78

David P. Johnson, 78, of Marion died in his home on February 14 after a brief illness while in the presence of his loving family. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Morgan) Johnson and the son of the late George H. and Edith M. (Bjorkman) Johnson.

He was born in Worcester and lived in Shrewsbury for many years before moving to Marion in 1963. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School.

Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He served as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Laffey DD-724.

Mr. Johnson was an insurance adjuster and partner of Friedline, Carter and Johnson, Inc. for many years before retiring. Previously he worked for General Adjustment Bureau.

He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Other interests included furniture refinishing, painting and having conversations with people. But at the end of each day what mattered most was his family.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Ruth E. (Morgan) Johnson; his children, David M. Johnson of Wareham, Evan G. Johnson of Marion, Steven P. Johnson of Middleboro and Deborah R. Kleinendorst of Grand Rapids, MN; nine grandchildren, Patsy, Brenda, David Jr., Brooke, Morgan, Jared, Dylan, Kyle and Kelby; a great granddaughter, Trinedee; several nephews and nieces.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18 in St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 124 Front St., Marion. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visiting hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
