Deadline to submit Marion election papers is March 24
With the deadline to submit election papers fast approaching, it appears Marion voters will decide contested races for the Selectmen, School Committee and Planning Board.
The final day to submit papers to the Town Clerk’s office is March 24. The election is scheduled for May 16.
Right now, two are vying for one open seat on the Board of Selectmen. Incumbent Stephen Cushing will face a challenge from Dale Jones.
Elected to the board in 2008, Cushing said there are projects he wants to oversee, such as renovations to Marion’s aging Town House.
Jones, who is a professional engineer, as been a resident for 40 years. He is also a certified EMT who helped found the town’s ambulance service.
Last year, Jones and Planning Board member Ted North challenged Selectmen John Henry for the seat when his term expired.
North is campaigning again, but this time to remain on the Planning Board. North’s term is one of three that are expiring. Current members Frank Ryder and Patricia McArdle won’t seek re-election.
In addition to North, Michael Popitz, Robert Lane and Eileen Marum are in the running.
The Sippican School Committee race features three candidates and two open seats as committee member Michelle Ouellette and Chair Christine Winters look to remain on the board. Winters was elected to the committee in 2008. Last year, Ouellette won a seat on the Old Rochester Regional Joint School Committee and has kept her seat on the Sippican Committee. Newcomer Kate Houdelette is also running for a spot.
