Do art, sing, watch movies with the Mattapoisett Senior Center

MATTAPOISETT — The Senior Center will host a variety of new events and classes in March, including a painting and fabric class, a sing-along and a movie event. 

Bernie Klim Jr. will teach a new painting class for beginners to intermediate artists. Students will learn about mixed media technique; color mixing and more. The class will be held on Fridays from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Registration is required. The class is free for those over 60 and $5 for anyone younger than 60. That cost does not include materials. Call the senior center for details. 

Lauren Langevin will host a lunch and learn session on healthy eating for one on March 10 at noon. The event is free, but registration is required. 

Langevin will also host a fabric art workshop on March 20 at 1 p.m. All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.

Pianist and singer Steve Richardson will host a sing along session on Thursday, March 26 at 12:30 p.m. Registration is required and there is a $3 cost for lunch. 

The Senior Center will host a lecture on the work of famous Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Degas and others.  Attendees will hear insights into the Impressionists’ techniques, what they believed and how their creations stirred the art world, inspiring artists.

The lecture will take place on March 17 at 12:30 p.m. It is free, but registration is required.

The Senior Center movie for March is “Harriet,” which tells the story of Harriet Tubman. The movie will be shown on March 31 at noon. The screening is free, but the Senior Center will sell pizza for $1 a slice.
