Donald Barber, 81

Donald Duane Barber, 81, of Mattapoisett died Oct. 17 peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital after complications following cancer surgery surrounded by his family.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (MacLennan) Barber.

Born in Haywood, Wisconsin, the son of the late Daniel and Lena (Horne) Barber, he lived in Mattapoisett.

Mr. Barber was formerly employed as an engineer at Raytheon for many years until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Air Force where he met his wife of 57 years. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, taking walks, traveling and most of all, being with his family. In recent years, Donald and Barbara enjoyed spending time in Port Charlotte, Florida and Punta Gorda, Florida where they especially loved listening to the “Polka Boys.” Donald and his brothers were known as the “Triple Threat” while playing sports in high school.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Katherine Barnett and her husband Alistair of Mattapoisett and Dianne Barber and her husband Carlos Smith of Medford; two sons, John Barber and his companion Eileen Turnbull of East Providence and David Barber and his fiancée Nancy Hudgins of Sudbury; two brothers, his twin brother Dennis Barber and his wife Ginny of Beaver Creek, Ohio and James Barber and his wife Joanne of Plymouth, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Rachel Barnett, Michael Barnett, Jared Barnett and his wife Allie, Stefani Barber, Vincent Barber and John Barber; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Dorothy Staub and her husband Marshall.
