Donation helps land trust hikers stay dry
MATTAPOISETT — A donation from Lowe’s Home Improvement in Wareham Crossing gave the Mattapoisett Land Trust the materials needed to build 120 running feet of bog board bridging at the trust’s Old Aucoot District.
Land trust volunteers placed the new boards, which allow dry transit over muddy and flooded trail sections east and west of the Buckley Bridge on the Blue Trail.
“This trail section usually is underwater during the spring and often features mud in other months. Lowe’s generous gift of a 70 percent discount on nearly $1,000 of building materials enabled MLT to remedy this problem once and for all” land trust President Mike Huguenin said.
In addition, the land trust has done maintenance on many of its trails for the spring.
Hikers will find new and revised trail segments, new signage and freshly maintained trails. Check mattlandtrust.org and the kiosks at each property for updated trail maps.
