Egg hunts were hopping with bingo, crafts and candy
The Rochester Lions Club hosted about 70 participants on Saturday, April 16, for their bingo-themed egg hunt — a new take on the usual Easter tradition.
With hundreds of eggs spread out across the lawn at the Arch at the Meadow, kids were to find colored eggs that corresponded with their bingo cards. The eggs were empty, but they only needed to find five to earn a bag of treats.
“We’re preparing them for old age when they shout ‘bingo’ at the nursing home,” the Lions Club emcee joked as all the children lined up at the starting line.
In addition to the mad dash to find eggs for bingo cards, the Lions Club had crafts set up inside and served up breakfast sandwiches.
The Sippican Historical Society had a more traditional set-up for those that showed up to the memorial garden behind the building that afternoon. 40 eggs filled with candy were carefully hidden away, and kids ducked through bushes and checked under benches to find them.
“This is our first year doing this,” said Sippican Historical Society member Alanna Nelson, who took charge of hiding all the eggs for the event.
She asked the participants what they thought she could do better next year, and many of them cheered that they wanted to hear music – there was unanimous crowd approval of the song “I Want Candy.”
