Environmental police turn to sonar in search for missing man

From Westport to Woods Hole, the search for 21-year-old Dana Dourdeville has spanned the South Coast as police, friends, family and others strive to find the missing man.

Authorities have not suspended the search for Dourdeveille, who went missing New Year’s Eve during a duck hunting trip.

Amy Mahler, a spokeswoman for the Environmental Police, said the agency is continuing to search for him; however, poor weather has “hampered” police.

Limited visibility on Sunday slowed search efforts. With clear weather forecast for this week officials will continue to search West Island, she said.

Mahler noted the search is a “coordinated effort between the Environmental Police and the Fairhaven Police Department.”

Multiple calls to the Fairhaven police department have not been returned.

Police will now use sonar technology to scan the ocean floor, some of the most difficult terrain to search, Mahler said.
