Evelyn “Mem” Benjamin, age 94 of Dartmouth, passed away Monday, January 1, 2019. She was the wife of the late Norman Benjamin Sr. and mother of the late Robert J. Benjamin.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antonio and Ignacia (Vieira) Moniz de Resendes, she lived in New Bedford prior to moving to Dartmouth in 1970. She was employed at Mickey Madden handbags until retiring in 1987.

She adored her family, especially her grandchildren, her sister Mary Roderick and her special niece Cynthia Moniz. Mem enjoyed cooking, finding new recipes, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, Search-a-word books, singing to her grandchildren as she rocked them to sleep and her daily walks. Some of her favorite meals to prepare were pancakes, beef stew, codfish cakes and spinach lasagna. She will be remembered as a kind and caring soul who dearly loved her family.

She is survived by a son, Norman P. Benjamin Jr. of Dartmouth; a sister, Mary Roderick of Mattapoisett; and a niece, Cynthia Moniz; six grandchildren, Matthew Benjamin of Taunton, Sarah Benjamin of Washington, Zachary Benjamin and Justin Benjamin of Fairhaven, Hope Sideleau of Tiverton and Tyler Benjamin of New Bedford; two great-great children, Phoebe and Nolan Sideleau. She was the sister of the late Eleanor Moniz, Agnes Lewis, Antonio Resendes and Leo Moniz.

Arrangements are in the care of WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date and time, to which family and friends are invited.
