'Fab five' make good showing at middle school track meet

The girls of the Old Rochester Regional Junior High cross country team were a force to be reckoned with at the Massachusetts Middle School Cross Country Invitational on Nov. 7. The event was held at Willard Field in Devens.

Coached by Justin Caldarone and Carlin Danner, a group of girls known as the "Fab Five" all placed in the top 30 out of more than 100 sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls in the Division 1 overall.

Standout Meg Hughes, an eighth grader, broke a course record and came in first overall with 11:23 time on the 1.8 mile course.

Margot Appleton took 10th place with a 12:16 time.

Mary Butler came in 17th, followed by Rachel Zutaut in 24th and Olivia Gowell in 26th place.

The team placed second overall at the competition.
