Finding treasures at Woman’s Club tag sale

May 6, 2023

MATTAPOISETT — The parking lot of Mattapoisett’s Ying Dynasty was filled with cars on the morning of Saturday, May 6, but they weren’t there for Chinese food.

Instead, shoppers pulled up bright and early for the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Tag Sale.

Vendors set up a circle of tables in the parking lot to sell everything from plants to used books to a large ceramic swan.

“This is something that the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club has planned for months,” said Eileen Marum, who set up a table at the event with woodworking tools and a terrarium for sale. “We want to support them.”

Funds from the event went toward the Woman’s Club’s three annual scholarships.

Two scholarships will be awarded to Mattapoisett students who are pursuing higher education.

One $1,500 scholarship will be given to a Mattapoisett resident who already has a high school diploma or equivalent and is looking to continue their education in an academic or technical program.

“We are very touched by the generous support shown by the community and the many members of the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club who participated in today's tag sale,” said Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Publicity Chair Kate Brown.

She added that some of the day’s sunshine “truly fell on the [Club’s] Scholarship Fund, because of beautiful weather, upbeat spirits, and the heartfelt generosity and excellent participation demonstrated by the many people from the community and the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club.”

The deadline for the student scholarships has passed. The deadline for the continuing education scholarship is Wednesday, May 31. To apply, visit https://www.mattapoisettwomansclub.org.
