The Mattapoisett Fire Department is looking for students to show their artistic talents along with their dedication to fire prevention in a poster contest. Students from Center School, Old Hammondtown School, the junior high will be given a specific fire prevention message to create their poster. The top three posters from each school will be hung at the firehouse for everyone to see at the annual Open House on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.

The student with the first place poster from each school will win the prize listed below. The top three posters from each school will have their names placed in a hat and the winner will receive the grand prize.

All posters must be turned into the fire department no later than Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. The posters will be judged by firefighters and the winners will be announced at Open House.

The themes are as follows: Center School – Stop, drop and roll, Old Hammondtown School — Smoke detectors, Old Rochester Regional Junior High — Carbon monoxide

The winner at Center School will receive a pizza party at school with you, your classmates and some of the Mattapoisett firefighters, made possible by Nick's Pizza.

The Old Hammondtown School winner will get two passes to Edaville USA and a $20 gift certificate to Red Robin in Wareham.

The junior high winner gets a $30 gift card from Buffalo Wild Wings and two passes to the AMC Movie Theater!

To enter, the artist must attend one of the named schools, and the poster must be of the assigned fire prevention theme with correct information. Students must come up with the idea and create the artwork themselves. One poster per student. The poster must have the students name, age and grade on it.

Students’ who cannot be at the Open House must make sure to have a contact phone number on the back of their poster. Posters must be done on paper or poster board.

Students may use a variety of media, such as watercolor, pen and ink, crayons and markers. Students cannot use clip art or computers for their posters.

The minimum dimensions are 8 1/2” x 11”. Maximum dimensions are 18” x 24”.
