Earlier this month First Citizen’s Credit Union, which has an office in Mattapoisett, donated 150 backpacks filled with basic care necessities for the homeless through the Project Care Package. Each of First Citizen’s nine branches had a collection box where customers and employees could donate items such as soap, toothbrushes, socks and band aids.

The backpacks were donated to three organizations: NOAH Shelter on Cape Cod, Mathew 25:40 Mission in Taunton and through the New Bedford Public School system for unaccompanied youths.

Project Care Package was an idea brought forth by First Citizen’s employee, Mario Nadich, assistant manager of the Managed Assets Group.
