MATTAPOISETT — A positive case of coronavirus has been reported at Center School in Mattapoisett, town and Old Rochester Regional School District officials said in an Oct. 21 press release.

This is the fourth positive case in the district since schools reopened on Sept. 16.

It is not clear whether a student, staff member or faculty member tested positive for covid.

The individual is self-isolating in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol.

The person has not been in school since Oct. 19 and was tested on the same day. The test results came on Oct. 21, and the district was immediately notified. Under state and federal health privacy laws, no further information is available about the person.

Contact tracing is being conducted by the Mattapoisett Board of Health. So far, it has been determined that they did not have any close contacts that directly impacted the district.

All schools continued with normal schedules on Oct. 22, including Center School.

Buildings will continue to be cleaned every day after school and as needed. Deep cleaning of all schools will continue each night, and high touch surfaces are and will continue to be cleaned frequently throughout the day.

Superintendent Michael Nelson and town officials continue to urge all families and residents to remain vigilant about social distancing, wearing masks when in public and practicing proper hygiene.
