Fisherman rescued in Marion Harbor

One fisherman had a close call Wednesday afternoon when his anchor line got caught in the propeller of his 21-foot boat.

The man, who said he was from Buzzards Bay but declined to give his name, was fishing near Bird Island when the line got tangled. As his boat began taking on water, he did what Assistant Harbormaster Adam Murphy called "all the right things" and called the Coast Guard on his cell phone. He also put on his life vest.

When Murphy arrived on the site, there were three to four foot sea conditions.

"[The boat] was full of water once we got on scene," Murphy said.

The fisherman was brought to Island Wharf where Marion EMTs assessed his condition and gave him a clean bill of health. The boat was towed to Bourne and the man was taken back to his vehicle on dry land.

On top of all that, the boater said he hadn't even caught a fish.

"Nothing biting," he said.
