Folks line up for first Harvest Moon Seafood Festival
There was something fishy going on in Mattapoisett on Sunday.
Shipyard Park was a sea of scallops, swordfish and hungry people who lined up for the first annual Harvest Moon Seafood Festival.
The purpose of the festival was to raise money to repair and upgrade the lighting and displays for the town's Holiday in the Park in December.
"It's all for the kids," said Melody Pacheco, a key organizer for both events.
Pacheco, who is also the Assistant to the Town Administrator, said that Turks Seafood Restaurant's owner Richard Pasquill, Jr. helped to conceive of the idea and also supplied a lot of the seafood.
The event was dedicated to his father Richard "Turk" Pasquill, Sr.
Although the festival was scheduled to start at 2 p.m., people started lining up early as town officials, restaurant owners and other community members got cooking.
"Local people have stepped up to the plate to help. We're absolutely thrilled," said Pacheco. "Our community has certainly come out to support us."
