Up to a foot of snow to blanket South Coast

Feb 15, 2014

While Cape Cod will get the worst of Saturday's winter storm, the South Coast looks to come in a close second.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the area and 8 to 12 inches of snow are expected to fall throughout the afternoon and into early Sunday morning.

The wind is forecast to reach gusts up to almost 50 mph overnight.

In a Facebook post, the Mattapoisett Police Department asked for residents to limit driving today, if possible, and reminded everyone to call NSTAR at 800-592-2000 for power outages. 911 is reserved for emergencies only.

In Rochester, police said the sooner off the road, the better; however, there are no driving bans in place.

On Twitter, Gov. Deval Patrick asked those east of Worcester to stay off the roads between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m.
