Freeze! Residents take icy dip for good cause

Residents were “Freezin’ for a Reason” on New Year’s Day for a 2nd annual polar plunge that raised funds for the Acushnet-based B.A.M. Foundation.
The event raises money for families on the South Coast struggling with cancer.
Funds raised help with costs like paying bills and parking fees that insurance companies do not cover.
Participants braved the cold as temperatures hovered in the mid-20s when they took the plunge at noon at Mattapoisett Town Beach. Local businesses returned this year to provide a heated tent, courtesy of Sperry Tents, and hot coffee and warm food donated from area restaurants.
