Funds approved for new Conservation Commission website
The Conservation Commission wants to expand its digital presence with a new website.
Conservation Agent Laurell Farinon explained that the current site, hosted on www.townofrochestermass.com, didn’t have enough space for all of the information commission members wanted available online.
“We’ve found there’s a need in town for people to get more information,” Farinon said. “Right now, we’ve got one page with everything glommed on to it.”
Farinon, along with Conservation Commission member Rosemary Smith, met with Selectmen on Monday and requested $1,800 to hire BayNet Web Services.
The Fairhaven-based company is the town’s current web contractor and designed and maintains sites for the Police Department and Council on Aging.
Selectmen approved the funds, which will be transferred from the commission’s notice of intent account. Before the approval, the account had $6,600. Farinon said state regulations limit how the money can be spent.
With the additional online space, Farinon said the commission would post a new Rochester trail guide.
“It was almost obsolete right after we printed it,” she said. “We have more properties to add.”
Additionally, conservation forms, filing instructions and much more information would be available.
“I think it’s a worthy cause,” Farinon said.
