Gatemen visit Mattapoisett Library

Jun 28, 2016

Three Wareham Gatemen players stopped by the Mattapoisett Public Library on June 28.

Colton Shaver, Gunner Leger and Jackson Lamb from the Gatemen joined kids from the summer reading program at the library to read books, take pictures, sign autographs, do crafts and play catch.

The players read baseball books to the children such as “Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit” by Chris Van Dusen and “Zachary’s Ball,” by Matt Tavares.

After reading books to the children, the players split up between the craft table where kids could color in Gatemen logos to make into pins, an autograph table and a “photo booth” where pictures taken on Polaroid cameras with the players so children could turn them into baseball cards.

After everyone had gotten autographs and photos, the players went outside with the children to play catch out front.

The Gatemen collaborate with the library frequently while they’re in town for the summer.

“They’re a great organization,” children’s librarian Linda Burke said.
