Goodies galore for Tri-Town egg hunters
Eggs were scattered across the fields of Arch at the Meadow and the trails of Peirson Woods during the first weekend of April. The Rochester Lions Club and The Sippican Land Trust celebrated Easter with unique egg hunts.
The first rain of April could not stop egg gatherers from playing Easter egg bingo on Saturday, April 1.
“I need a purple and yellow egg,” shouted Ben Waino, 7, as he searched frantically across the field for the last egg on his bingo card.
Instead of being filled with goodies, the multicolored Easter eggs served as bingo markers according to Rochester Lions Club President Sue Stiller.
“We do it differently instead of kids going out and finding the eggs, all of the eggs are empty,” she said.
Stiller and the Lion’s Club divided the fields into three different categories, having egg hunters search in the area that corresponds with their age group.
“That way we don’t have big kids trampling little kids and that way each division can get some prizes,” Stiller said.
After the search, participants were welcome to take a photo with a highly-caffeinated Easter bunny.
“My mom said I would get Starbucks if I do this,” said 11-year-old Easter Bunny Phoebe Wanio clutching a Marylou's cup in her hand.
Eggs were not as easy to spot during the Sippican Lands Trust Easter egg scavenger hunt on Sunday, April 2.
Eggs were hidden in the brush and branches along the Peirson trail.
“This is one way to get children outside and enjoy the trails,” said Sippican Lands Trust President Cathy Stone.
The hunt was divided into two groups. Children five and younger had a simpler course, while those six and older faced a more challenging hunt.
The older age group didn’t let time go to race as they ran down the trail to collect eggs filled with candy, stickers and even Kool Kone gift cards.
Hailey Hall, 4, couldn’t wait to put her pink eggs in her unicorn basket.
“I got it last year from the Easter Bunny,” she said. Hall was eager to share her Easter earning with her new friend Hailey Hawkins, 3.
