Gracious grant: Sippican Woman’s Club offering scholarship opportunity
MARION — Five graduating high school seniors who are residents in Marion will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship based on academic accomplishments, co-curricular activities, community service and financial needs.
One scholarship recipient will receive an additional $500 if chosen for the Lu Chevrier Award. The award, in honor of Chevrier who served as the Sippican Woman’s Club president 1996-99, will go to a senior whose goal is to teach, or has taught in the past.
The Alice Ryder Book Award will be awarded to the highest-ranking eighth grade English student. Ryder, an author, served as the president of the club three times from 1922-25, 1940-44 and 1946-48.
The club will also award three students enrolled in post-secondary education a $300 scholarship.
Application forms are available on the Sippican Woman’s club website: www.sippicanwomansclub.org. Alternatively, physical copies are available within the guidance departments at Old Rochester Regional High School, Tabor Academy, Falmouth Academy, Bishop Stang High School, Old Colony Regional Technical High School and Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.
