Guardsman to become Rochester's next part-time police officer

Dec 29, 2015

Police Chief Paul Magee soon will have a new part-time officer on the force: Tech. Sgt. Bryan Burger of Rochester.

Magee, whose recommendation for the appointment was approved by Selectmen on Monday, said Burger must pass a physical fitness test before he can officially patrol Rochester streets as a part-time officer.

Prior to the physical test, Magee said Burger was a graduate of the first part-time police academy held specifically for members of the National Guard.

Currently, Burger works for U.S. security forces, and he is stationed at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod. He said the exact nature of his job is classified.

Magee noted that Burger is also working towards a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

“Based on his experience and background, I think he will be an asset to the force as a part-time police officer,” Magee said, adding that Burger lives in town with his wife and two children.

Selectmen appointed Burger to a term set to expire April 30, 2016 pending the completion of the physical test.
