MATTAPOISETT — Hear the author of a story about a girl’s coming of age in late 19th century Scotland.

Margot Livesey will come to the Mattapoisett Free Public Library to talk about her 2024 novel “The Road from Belhaven.”

Part of the Fall 2024 Purrington Author Talk Series, the program is Sunday, Sept. 22 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Livesey grew up in a boys’ private school in the Scottish Highlands where her mother and father worked, according to a publicity release.

She has a bachelor of arts in English and philosophy from University of York in England. Livesey has published nine novels, including New York Times best seller “The Flight of Gemma Hardy,” “ Eva Moves the Furniture” and “The Boy in the Field.”

Currently teaching at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Livesey has taught at many universities and received many fellowships, the release said.

She lives with her husband, a painter, in Cambridge, MA, going back to London and Scotland whenever she can.

“Every novel of Margot Livesey’s is, for her readers, a joyous discovery,” author Alice Sebold said according to the release. “Her work radiates with compassion and intelligence and always, deliciously, mystery.”

The program is free. Signed books will be available for purchase.
