Helen-Carol Gfroerer, Aunt Helen, Miss “G.”, Guffy, 86, of Marion formerly of New Castle, NH, passed away Thursday November 3, at Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion. Helen was born March 7, 1925 the daughter of the late Rudolph and Margaret (Lapworth) Gfroerer.
Helen retired from Bedford High School as a physical education instructor and coach. She was best known as “Miss G.” and also enjoyed all sports, taught sailing, was the cheerleading coach for the Shriners Football Classic for many years and was an avid skier in her day. Helen was also known as “Guffy” and remained close to her college friends and enjoyed their reunions. An animal lover Helen loved her cats.
Helen is survived by her brother, David Gfroerer, and his wife, Joyce of Halifax and her nieces and nephews; Donald Gfroerer and his wife Laurene of Wareham, Jo-Anne Bosworth and her husband Henry of Halifax, Susan Berta, Judith Matsuda and her husband Gene all of CA, Carol Hazard and her husband Steve of MS. Helen is also survived by many wonderful relatives, friends and former students.
Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers and in honor of “Miss G” memorial gifts may be made to the Memorial Scholarship through the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Bedford.
