Henry re-elected to Board of Selectmen
From a field of three, voters re-elected Selectman Jon Henry who will serve a fourth term on the board following Marion’s Town Election on Friday.
The selectmen seat was one of four contested races in this year’s election. Henry faced challenges from W. Dale Jones, an engineer and veteran of numerous town committees, and Ted North, a Planning Board member and Capital Planning Committee member. Henry earned 495 votes to Jones’ 185 and North’s 149.
Henry said if he was re-elected he would focus on completing the infrastructure, drainage, and roadway improvements planned for Marion Village.
“You can’t just say ‘no’ to those repairs. That’s the kind of thinking that got us into this mess in the first place…public utilities are over taxed and under maintained,” he said.
The race for Planning Board brought two new members to that board as voters chose not to re-elect Sherman Briggs, who was the lowest vote getter with 364. Recently, Briggs has been in the news for admitting to a state ethics violation for work he performed at Tabor Academy.
The new members are Jerry Ferrari, who garnered 447 votes, and Norman Hills, who had 430 votes. Both candidates said the town needed to develop a Master Plan to guide future growth.
In the race for Old Rochester School Committee Linda Harju, a Carver kindergarten teacher, handily beat Michelle Ouellette, a member of the Marion School Committee. Harju won with 436 votes while Ouellette earned 285 votes.
Board of Health Chair Albin Johnson held onto his seat despite a challenge from Kerry Reynolds. Johnson earned 425 votes to Reynolds 343.
The terms for all the boards are for a period of three years.
