Herbert L. Mason of Marion passed away Tuesday, July 26 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a year of declining health.

He was born July 25, 1921 in Chicago, IL and raised in Los Angeles.  He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1938.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at UCLA.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Sept. 1942 until Dec. 1945.

Later, after earning his CPA certificate, he ran his own accounting practice in Los Angeles.   He was a controller for Hyatt Hotels in the San Francisco area and traveled to Asia and extensively in the states as part of that position.  He was also a controller for Grosvenor Properties, Ltd. in San Francisco for many years.  He retired from Grosvenor Properties Ltd. in 1982 and moved with his wife to Marion, MA.  He loved it here in Marion.

Mr. Mason enjoyed tennis, golf and sailing.  He was a member of the Countryside Golf and Country Club in Naples, FL, Little Harbor Golf Club & The Beverly Yacht Club in this area.

In addition to his wife, Joyce (Crick) Mason, he is survived by two daughters, Bobbi Baumgartner of Redwood City, CA and her husband (Lee) and Shellie Weed of Stockton, CA and her husband, (Christopher); a son, Jeffrey Mason of San Diego, CA and his wife (Franchesca); a stepson, Steven M. Howe of The Sea Ranch, CA; a brother, sister in-law and seven grandchildren all residing on the west coast.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Beverly Yacht Club, 99 Water St., Marion, MA on Sunday, August 28 at 1600 hours.  Burial will be private.
