His & Hers - The Watercolors of Barbara and Tom Geagan
The Marion Art Center will host an exhibition entitled “His & Hers – The Watercolors of Barbara and Tom Geagan” with an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibition at the 80 Pleasant St. gallery will run from Oct. 7 to Nov. 15. Admission is free.
Husband and wife team Barbara and Thomas Geagan are self-taught watercolorists who describe their inspiration as coming from life experience, the beauty of the natural world, and a series of coincidences.
They share an interest in "interpretive realism" with a traditional bent and complement one another in their depictions. They say critiquing one another promotes their growth as painters.
Tom is drawn to using gray tones in his paintings and especially likes fog and mist over the ocean for subjects. Barbara favors using all colors of the rainbow to achieve harmony, brightness and sharp contrast.
The Geagans’ works feature floral highlights from their garden, indigenous wild animals and maritime scenes from the local area. Portraits and many commissioned houses have been included in their works.
Selections of their paintings were on exhibit at the Wareham Free Library and in Watertown, N.Y. Their paintings hang in many local homes, restaurants and inns. A child’s portrait by Barbara is featured on the cover page of a health manual for families of U.S. soldiers stationed in Germany. Paintings have also hung in the Jonathon Bourne Library and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. For several years, a collection of their maritime paintings were on loan at Southcoast Hospitals Group’s Wareham Medical Center.
Both Geagans have received ribbons at local art fairs. Barbara received the Best in Show award at the 40th anniversary Bourne-Wareham Art Show. In recent years, her works were accepted in the annual Falmouth Artists Guild juried art show.
Both artists are members of the Marion Art Center, the Bourne-Wareham Art Association and the Falmouth Artists Guild.
Marion Art Center gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
