If only...

Oct 16, 2011

My guess is that a lot of Rochester people think that the Hartley-Zell folks must be having nightmares. They did such a great job designing, building and landscaping The Pines off Route 105.

The 55-and-over development is a real asset to the community. But the questions… if only we hadn’t named it The Pines at Hathaway Pond….if only we hadn’t named the road Hathaway Pond Circle… if only we hadn’t charged a premium for those properties closer to the water… if only we had bought the dam when Susie Hampson offered it to us.

Everyone makes mistakes. But they shouldn’t compound those mistakes by attacking the Buzzards Bay Coalition. The Coalition has a nearly 25-year history of working to support and preserve local agriculture and is working with Rochester cranberry growers to provide more reliable sources of water than Hathaway Pond provided.

I think The Pines on the Sippican River has a nice ring to it. Sincerely,

Susan Peterson, Rochester
