MARION — A session of jazz is coming to the Marion Art Center.

“Jazz Jam” will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 with the Marion Art Center’s house band of Matt Richard on piano, Dave Zinno on bass and Gary Johnson on drums supporting improvisers as they interpret several jazz standards of various style formats.

“Be part of the long tradition of the jazz jam session complete with participation from community musicians,” a Marion Art Center release said.

Trombonist Phil Sanborn will lead a question and answer session to educate about the “inner workings of a jam session” and explain “how the songs are structured and how the ‘road map’ for each selection helps the improvisers,” according to the release.

Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers and free for participating musicians. Donations will be accepted.
