Joseph H. Plumb Library to reopen

Oct 19, 2020

ROCHESTER — The Joseph H. Plumb Library will reopen on Oct. 26, Library Director Gail Robers said at an Oct. 19 Board of Selectmen meeting.

“We are at long last ready to reopen,” Roberts said.

And the library will implement some new programs soon after the reopening.

Roberts said the library plans to begin using a self-checkout system where patrons can check out books using their smartphones, and another program which will allow patrons to download videos, magazines and other types of media.

The library will be open for appointments in 30-minute increments, and masks will be required upon entry.

The library will not be able to host indoor programming, but programs like storytime and knitting will take place outside when the library reopens.

Rochester Town Administrator Suzanne Szyndlar said that the basement renovations at Plumb Library are nearing completion. The elevator is up and running, the floor is nearing completion, and ceiling tiles are on their way to the library.

“It’s looking like a place now,” Roberts said.
