Kids tap into natural remedies with essential oils

Kelly Churbuck used to work in TV for World Wrestling Entertainment, but now she said, “I play with essential oils professionally.”

The Wareham resident and Young Living Essential Oils representative shared some of her favorite restorative blends with kids at Plumb Library on Monday night.

“There’s a huge science to it,” she said.

Churbuck said that since she began using essential oils, which are cold pressed from natural sources such as lemons, tea trees and lavender, her family has been much healthier.

“Last winter we didn’t have one doctor visit,” said Churbuck, who has a young child.

On Monday, she gave kids a brief primer in essential oils and then let them make their own blends using recipes she provided, some that could help with relaxation and focus as school begins, she said.

“You roll it on and then you breathe. That’s the key to all of these.”

The children, some who had used the products in the past, enjoyed mixing the strong-smelling, concentrated oils.

“The lemon smells like lemon cookies!” said Sophia Cruz of Rochester.

The Friends of Plumb Library sponsored the event.
