Knights of Columbus all lit up for Christmas

Dec 9, 2022

MATTAPOISETT - The findings at the second annual Knights of Columbus tree lighting ceremony and Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 9 were truly stunning.

Every single kid in town has been good enough for Santa Claus to give them presents this year — according to the kids themselves.

“He’s been a very good boy,” said Alycia Richard about her 7-year-old son Luke. Luke was excitedly rocking in Santa’s chair, waiting for him to arrive so he could ask him for a new bike this year.

7-year-old Hannah Rodrigues asked Santa for an Oculus virtual reality headset and a new computer.

“At least she’s honest,” her mother Charlene said. “You’re way out of the box. You couldn’t say a Barbie doll?”

7-year-old Aleah Mugford did want Barbie dolls. Her younger brother Dante, 5, wanted a Nerf gun.

The line for Santa stretched across the field before he even showed up. As they waited for him to make his appearance, kids sipped hot cocoa, played hide-and-seek through the light displays and made s’mores by the bonfires. Some had to blow out their marshmallows when they caught fire.

Keyboardist Ric Leblanc, saxophonist John Vaughan, trumpeter Bob Williamson of the Symphony Shop in Dartmouth and drummer Neil Silvia (Williamson’s son) serenaded partiers with classic carols. Their performance of “Mele Kalikimaka” was ironic on a night where the temperature dipped to 39 degrees.

When the tree was lit, and Santa and Mrs. Claus rode in on a fire truck, the kids screamed and ran to greet their idol.
