Learn about joining town committees Feb. 10
The Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee is sponsoring an informational meeting designed to encourage residents to serve the town in a number of ways.
Mattapoisett has opportunities for residents to participate in local government, whether their interests be in culture and the arts, services for the disabled, recreation programs or services for seniors. These are just a few of the many town committees that provide services to residents and depend on volunteers.
To learn about these opportunities, come to the downstairs conference room of the Mattapoisett Library, 7 Barstow St., on Wednesday, Feb. 10. from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The panel of speakers will include Town Administrator Mike Gagne, Town Clerk Catherine Heuberger and Selectman Paul Silva. Panel members will share information about the town committees where members are appointed not elected. They will discuss the town committees that exist and how to seek an appointment to one. Information will also be shared about how to file papers with the town and state for those who are interested in the possibility of running for public office.
A question and answer period will follow the formal presentation. Members of various committees will be present to answer specific questions about their committees.
This presentation is free and open to all regardless of political affiliation. For more information, contact the Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee, mattdems@gmail.com.
