To the Editor: 

My name is Jody Dickerson and I am running for one of two vacant seas on the Marion School Committee. I am running as a write-in candidate.

I believe that public education is intimately tied to the vitality of our community. Investing in our children now means a vibrant future for Marion. In order to provide every child with the education they deserve, the Marion School Committee must have a vision; create structure to support that vision and to be accountable to the public. We must also advocate for our students at every opportunity and support the staff and administration of Sippican School along the way.

My professional career and volunteer service have prepared me well for the Marion School Committee. I have been fortunate to have been a resident of this great community for over 50 years. I attended Sippican School and graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School. I am currently the director of the Recreation Department here in Marion. As the director of recreation I have had the opportunity to work closely with the staff at the school. I am amazing and heartened by the quality of teachers and staff we have at Sippican. They care about our children, and it really shows. I have also proudly serviced the residents of Marion and other communities in Massachusetts as a police officer and finished my career in law enforcement as a chief in New Hampshire.

Since I was a young child it was instilled in me by my parents to give back to the community I call home. I have served as a Selectman here in Marion for over 15 years as well as in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Along with being a Selectman I have volunteered on over 30 different committees, from dealing with town and regional budgets, building committees, municipal and county advisory boards, municipal employee contracts, and construction projects, just to mention a few.

I believe with my background, knowledge and most of all my dedication, I would be a great asset to the Marion School Committee.

I ask for your write-in vote on Friday, June 26.
