Library volunteers share favorite reads
May 23, 2013
At a celebration night for the Mattapoisett Library's volunteers, trustees, and Library Trust members on Wednesday, Sippican Week asked several people to recommend some of their favorite books. Here are some reads to enjoy by the beach, with a cup of tea, or on those long flights to faraway lands this summer.

Library Director Susan Pizzolato: What books would you recommend from this past year’s reads? “Caleb’s Crossing” by Geraldine Brooks and anything by Donna Leone. I can’t believe the characters aren’t real people. BY GEORGIA SPARLING

Mary Magee, library trustee: What was your favorite book from the last year? “The House at Tyneford” by Natasha Solomons. I always like books that I learn something from. I like when someone takes something real and fictionionalizes it. BY GEORGIA SPARLING

Martin Hudis, trustee: What book are you looking forward to reading? “And the Mountains Echoed” by Khaled Hosseini. I expect that will be a really good book. I loved the “The Kite Runner.” BY GEORGIA SPARLING

Elizabeth Hutchinson, volunteer: What books do you reread? I reread three books every year: “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen, and “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte. BY GEORGIA SPARLING

Matthew Carvalho, Junior Friends of the Library: What was your favorite book from the last year? “Confessions of a Murder Suspect” by James Patterson with Maxine Paetro. It had more of a twist than normal. I didn’t expect the ending. BY GEORGIA SPARLING

Bill Asci, left, library trustee: What book to you reread? “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville. I reread it every year. It’s the greatest of American novels. Every time I read the book, I learn something new. Seth Mendell, Library Trust: What books do you reread? I like all maritime books. I’ve reread parts of Samuel Eliot Morison’s the “Maritime History of Massachusetts” and “Paul Revere and the World He Lived In” by Esther Forbes. BY GEORGIA SPARLING
