Litter pickup in Marion begins election day

Apr 25, 2016

This year, after voters have cast their ballots at the VFW Hall on May 13, they will be greeted by an Arbor Day team. In past years, townwide litter pickup has been headquartered at the Music Hall in mid-May.

This May 13, there will be people on hand to give out trash bags and disposable gloves with instructions on where volunteers can go to clean up Marion. It can be done any time, and filled trash bags can go to the dump or in residents' own barrels. The Marion Tree and Parks Committee would like to see every citizen  participate and enlist the help of families, scout troops, classes and neighborhoods to pick up roadside trash all over Marion.

The Tabor Academy community is leading the way by picking up garbage on I-195 ramps on May 1.

There is a reward for the first 100 voters who take trash bags and pledge to do their part. To celebrate Arbor Day, they will receive a birch seedling.

Any questions about the event may be directed to Margie Baldwin, tree warden, at 508-748-2080.
